So! You are looking for a portrait! What type of portrait are you looking for? A large family wall portrait, with three or four families, for Grandma's 80 birthday? A self-portrait, maybe, for your husband, wife or partner? A pet portrait? Perhaps your pet cat is getting on in years?  Or maybe a black& white portfolio to get you started in your modeling career?

There are so many reasons to have a lovely portrait photograph taken. How many times have you wished you had a beautiful photograph of the children while they were young!

These days, with the improvements in camera technology, almost everyone can take snapshots themselves. But, most would admit that a professionally taken photograph, with correct lighting and placement of subjects, is a joy to admire, and is something that is difficult to achieve by an amateur.

Why? Because experience counts!

Photographic film records light. And it is this arrangement of that light, reflected back to the film, which makes the difference. Add to that the experience of artistically placing the subjects to form a pleasing arrangement, and you begin to get some idea of why using a professional photographer makes sense.

Here at RAYLEIGH PHOTOGRAPHIC, we have been taking portrait photographs for fifteen years, and over that time have gained a wealth of experience with with all manner of subjects. "Never work with animals or children" is a phrase we often hear. We must be gluttons for punishment!!!!! That's exactly what we do, day in and day out, and we enjoy it!

Depending on the type of portrait you require, clothing can make all the difference. For a formal portrait, smart clothes usually in darker colours work well (jackets and ties for men, evening wear for women). Informal portraits are better with casual clothes in lighter colours. Try to avoid clothing that is highly patterned as this tends to dominate, and women should wear long skirts or trousers. Colour co-ordination is something to think about in group pictures.
